As I sit at home, with this really nice dog, away from the hubbub I sit still appreciating the semester–especially the outlet I had in this last project–Hollywood Library.

Pheobe Goes to the Library

I’m about to go on a run with this dog…well more of a fast walk, talk to Ginger about her life and thoughts on misandry…you know.  BUT BUT I want to write this before I leave it on the court, so to speak.

“What makes mine video unfamiliar?  What unifies it?”

“The way you shoot the familiar must be unusual, especially to you.”

“Phoebe’s head–something terrible happened–I imagined being inside Phoebe’s brain all the time.” –Rose

That was nice to hear because I tried to sit down at the computer and work on the video when I was rested, tranquil but…as maybe the video is evidence…that is not who I am consistently.  Phoebe–where you at?

“narrowed viewpoint–You have a clear vision, it is not made clear to the audience,” then Gala looked back, “it’s successful–Phoebe, it’s a compliment.”  Sometimes Imma little dense, but this compliment was sincere and came from Gala so I wanted to mention it.  The success of a “narrowed viewpoint” is easily mistaken for the failure of a too obtuse concept or idea.

Your video‘s unifying feature is it’s rich texture, the fabric, layer disparate parts angling tone.  Texture!  circle-circle-circle-circle-circle”

my response:      🙂

“There’s a lot of chaos–it resolves into–comes to resolve.  It ends on a narrowing strip as resolving.”

Here’s how I’m thinking–underly of a storytelling narrative–but couldn’t tell you what happened.  It’s like writing an essay but less linear, as I have found out through many, many failed attempts at the brainstorm-freewrite-outline-write-edit linear paper writing mantra.

Also, someone (I think Cee Cee….AGAIN WITH THE BRILLIANCE, CEE CEE!) said lightbulb as symbolic as hurried, last minute inspiration–tragic in its timing.   How brilliant of that person to put words to that aspect of the video and real life experience!

This class has been a comfort and a sizzle.

Off to talk with this dog about calendars and misguided Pedigree poodles–WHEN WILL THEY BEHAVE?!

I resonated the most with Cee Cee’s piece “Kitchen”.  Unified by actions, by process not product, it captivated my propensity for lulling and lolling in the kitchen absentmindedly.  YET for all that lulling there are actions, large or small, quick and obtuse, the actions are there, indisputable evidence that the kitchen is a place of action rather than passivity.  Go Cee Cee!

unifies:  hands moving

it wants some sort of resolution.  I want a story.

starting literally: this is me writing a story on my computer

then shit starts to happen we don’t even know what’s happening: trusting process, can’t define the process; that’s why it’s abstract, I don’t want to define it (the work);  it’s not formula

end.  it’s abstracted.  but resolved.  it’s something.  (it could be the gritty stuff- – – probably not back to the hands/definitely not back to the hands)….could be inspection of the hand/ can’t identify my hand as my hand.

we’re resewing it/ re-see-ing it

I need to work on transitions.  As usual!

This is working so closely with my senior seminar and what I’m thinking with it.  Wow.  because I am wondering the position of the monologues and the content in them and thus and what so ever.  You know?

Nell is sick.  😦

But she put up all the posters we’ve done so far around the room.  I am surrounded by creativity; inked and printed proof.

Last week Nell suggested I take moments of the keyboarding to either highlight or only have one clip showing rather than simultaneously two going in order to tell more of a punctuated, controlled story with the chaotic aesthetic.

The light from the lightbulb, how appropriate for linear meaning of idea, inspiration, etc and the overlay is important because otherwise it is tedious to watch the exploration of the lightbulb (i was about to write “incandescent” but are they- – are these new fangled light-em-ups plain candescent?)

I tried to get fancy with the spinning light that is covered in pox.  Alas, my hand is unsteady as it spins and it’s unsettling and not in a “I LOVE SCARING PEOPLE WITH ART” way.  I may use a still of it at one point.  That’s an idea!

I learned how to take the audio out!  This is great news because the crunching of the dirty cushion of hair, nuts and other debris was so gross.  That gets me thinking about audio.  “How do you solve a problem like, Au-dio?  How do you choose the right sound for your-film?”

evidence of that earlier idea.  eeeeeee.

There’s this shot of a computer turning on and I like the way it looks, maybe as transition.  I was playing with having the bright white of the process go first or rewind it so all you can see is blue or have it rewind and begin again….playing like a player.

Also, I’m in an improv show tonight.  The Earl in east atlanta.  9pm.   it’s gonnna be a blast.

Today was a playing day.  I realized I have a lot more footage than I need.  Simultaneously, I want to shoot other shots of the library, possibly.

most successful moment:  overlay of typing hands with the vent, tv monitors, and couch cushions dirt.  I want to cut out the face and desk because that is distracting.  I’m not sure what decision to make because I haven’t set my mission statement for the project yet. I guess the story is that the library is dirty and busy and there are spaces going on while we’re sitting and typing.  The clips of the hands typing is reversed to cover more spans of time.

interspersing the lights with other footage just to get the other footage on the playing field.  My inclination is to keep like shots with like shots but maybe that is advantageous to creation.  Uhhh.

light. light. light. light. light.

I’m having difficulty!!!!!

library McCain time

I got some shots but I’d like to explore the different stacks, elevators, outside, different time of day lighting and more couch cushions.

…then nothing was on the usb

and then there was…and it took forever to load.

LIBRARY is my space

I took way more than 5 minutes. WHOOPS.

Nell helped me out today- – her grass is growing and that is inspiring.

“driving in hybridity”

Although, I did not have my zip drive today but I did have screen shots from the last time I worked on these layers.  Unfortunately, the vertical “strange world” came out unfinished instead of the one with upside down gas station.  So that’s embarrassing.

“play is essential”

nell is speaking about man’s existence.

also over the weekend I will be werqing on the other one i’ve affectionately named

tan grandma

Today my agenda includes finding pictures of myself, my face, to use for the map.  I am going to use the ones I have taken last wednesday and throughout the year on the mac and the professional camera Nell allowed us to use.  I like the idea to use low-rez photos on the mac computer because then it’s like google earth.

“have a whole mess of images that you’ve taken- – to choose from and to then use- – “

Is this too simplistic?

“You’re building the space as here “

“Body as architecture.”

Nell says, “for this project, use only pictures you take.”  so the gonorrhea idea is out of the drawing.  I don’t really want to stray from this original idea.  It’s uncomfortable and I don’t know what it is going to look like…which is the purpose of this class.

this is a cool leg that came out of a lasso delete.

My charge before next class is to take 50 pictures of different parts of my body in order to create this piece.  uhhh.
